Deepdell Culvert
Location: Macres Flat, Otago
Duration: 17 days, 2019
Engineer: Engineering Geology Ltd
A 3.3m Diameter by 90m long culvert needed to be replaced. The team at Skevingtons was given 28 days to complete the project, but completed it in 19 days, meeting the budget and meeting the project timeline well ahead.
Skevingtons worked day and night to get the culvert installed with a team of 21 on-site. Access was closed off with no traffic. The culvert was put in single panels, with each panel weighing on average 200 kilos. The culvert required 1800 bolts to secure it, with the team inside the culvert spending hours tightening bolts.
The culvert has sand and specific packaging material around it as it has to withstand the weight of Macraes trucks at 300-400 tonne each.
Part of the success of the project can be contributed to a lot of preparation around the project and on the site, along with a solid team working day and night to get the project completed.
